The Values Into Action programme has been a great success at Land Securities, and this is reflected in the increasing number of nominations we receive each quarter.
Winners are people whose nominations really stand out and make them worthy of a Values into Action Award. Choosing these winners is no easy job, so the judges need your help!
When making a nomination we suggest that you follow a structured approach using 'Fred' as an example.
Summary: I am nominating 'Fred' because of the extraordinary support he provided to me when I was on maternity leave.
Purpose of the nomination and value it supports:
Fred's actions on a daily basis clearly demonstrate the value behaviours for 'Respect for the Individual' and I believe he should be recognised for this.
Describe the situation:
Describe the situation in which your nominee's behaviour demonstrated this value and how that behaviour helped you or improved the situation for others.
The consequences of doing this action / the consequences of not doing this action:
Describe what was avoided as a result of Fred's actions such as cost savings, deadlines met. Describe what could have happened if Fred had not done what he did.
Other tips to writing a winning nomination are as follows:
- Values Into Action is based on the promotion of our five core values. Your nomination
should refer to one of these values and how it is evident in the actions of your nominee. For help doing this please take a look at 'What are our values'.
- Give as much detail as possible, include any examples or occasions when a nominee has effectively demonstrated a particular value behaviour. Has this person
received feedback that supports your nomination? Have they been nominated before?
- A two-line nomination will rarely tell the judges enough to persuade them that this
nominee should be a Values Into Action winner; give them more information and your
nominee will be more likely to succeed!
- Use clear, concise and professional language
- Many, many people are nominated in the Customer Service and Excellence categories. Could your nominee's outstanding behaviour be demonstrating one of the other values; Respect, Integrity or Innovation?
